Counseling
Welcome!
My name is Zanna Taie and I am the school counselor at Carrie Martin. My mission as an elementary school counselor is to empower my students in both their personal and academic lives. I create a safe, open, and trustworthy environment for students and provide support for their social-emotional needs. I strive to aide students in developing the necessary skills for academic success and attend to their overall wellness in their personal and academic lives.
Elementary School Counseling
The elementary school years are a crucial time in a child's life. Students are beginning to develop their own self-concept and are learning social skills alongside their academic skills. In this period of time, students are beginning to develop their own beliefs and attitudes regarding school, peers, and themselves. Prevention and intervention practices are essential during this time for students in achieving academic success as well as learning positive social-emotional skills when faced with problems. It is up to the elementary school counselor to create a safe and respectful environment where all students feel included and welcomed. Elementary school counseling helps set students up for success by investing in their social-emotional and academic future.
Role of a School Counselor
School counselors are necessary in the elementary, middle, and high school levels of a student's educational career. School counselors work with students at the academic, social-emotional, and vocational levels of their educational career. Roles of a school counselor include supporting students through individual counseling sessions, group counseling, classroom instruction, and as a general point of contact in the school for any needs a student may have. School counselors work closely with the staff of their school and advocate for their students.
